Sportlogiq Standout: Victor Hedman

Selected by: Kenny Matheson - Media Content Analyst & Billy P. Bertrand - Media Content Editor

Metrics: Slot Shots, Defensive Zone Passes, Neutral Zone Passes

In a dominating Game 3 win for the Lightning, Victor Hedman became only the 3rd defenseman in history to score 10 goals in a single postseason run, two shy of tying Paul Coffey for most all-time. His goal came from the slot, one of his two shots from this high-danger area, tied for most among Lightning players, which is quite a feat for a defenseman.

Hedman also had a pair of assists and was active in the passing game all night. He completed 21 passes in the defensive zone and 7 in the neutral zone, both team-highs, that helped spark Tampa’s potent rush offense multiple times.

His first assist was a pass from the defensive zone that sent Steven Stamkos away on a rush. His second was in a similar fashion, firing a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone to Nikita Kucherov and sending him off on a 3 on 1.

With only a handful of games at most remaining, Victor Hedman has a chance to write his name in the record books. Even if he falls shy of the record, that type of play could earn him his first career Stanley Cup ring and a Conn Smythe trophy to go with it.
